Did you know…?

  • The school was built before the parish church so parish masses were held in the school hall until St Oliver Plunkett’s church was opened in 1975.
  • Scoil Chaitríona senior offered a 7th class on a number of occasions over the years, the first being in 1977 and the last in 1989.
  • Scoil Chaitríona Senior even has a history of ‘publication’!  We published an annual poetry book, which included gems penned by pupils of the school, in the late eighties and early nineties. Teacher John McGrath published many quiz books which included some of the brain crunching questions which appeared in the annual school quiz. Sixth class pupils (2011-2012) wrote a chapter in the novel ‘Ruadán, Ríona and the Lúadóg Chalice’, a collaboration by many Galway city schools and part of the ‘One Book, One City’ initiative. And we continue to publish our termly newsletter Scéalta Scoile!
  • Our school choir has graced many stages over the years including  National Children’s Choir performances in Leisureland and in Dublin, performing in Galway Musical Society’s production of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, appearing on the Late Late Toy Show and more recently supporting the Three Tenors onstage in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre.
