Many of the annual events which now make up the fabric of the school year in Scoil Chaitríona have their origins in the very early years of Scoil Chaitríona Senior…

  • The now almost 400 strong school band was first formed back in 1976. Pupils, staff and parents all rowed in to make uniforms, flags and eve pom-poms for the majorettes!
  • Many of the pupils and staff travelled to London on the first foreign school tour in 1983. These ‘adventures’ continued annually until the early years of the new millennium.
  • 1997 brought the first Comenius trip. Pupils and staff were involved in this European project until 2011. Classes in Scoil Chaitríona were twinned classes in Italy, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Germany, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Northern Ireland, Slovakia and the UK. Pupils swapped projects and communicated by letter, email and Skype. Teachers met to plan themes and to share ideas with their European counterparts.
  • One of the highlights of our school year, our annual Christmas Carol Service, was first held in 2000 to mark the Millennium year.
  • We achieved our first Green Flag in the year 2000.
  • Our beautiful school library was officially opened in 1998 and extended in 2008 and 2013.

Other annual events which have gone from strength to strength over the years include our end-of year art exhibition, our annual school quiz, our annual school sports, the handwriting and draughts competitions and our annual book fair.
