On Monday 19th December members of the Mr. Dempsey’s and Mr. Mulkerrins classes went to Renmore Barracks to witness the presentation of medals to the soldiers there. The medals were awarded by the Minister for  Defence, Paul Kehoe, in recognition of the work of the army during the 1916 Rising commemorations.

The soldiers were so nice they even gave us flags and pencils. We sat in these tents. When I sat down I realised there were classes from other local schools as well.  At first the band started playing and then a lady started speaking. After this we watched a video about the 1916 Rising. At last the soldiers got their medals. I bet they were happy. When it all ended we went inside and ate crisps, sweets and drank lemonade. It was a great day.   By Maria Ruchko
