3rd Class, Room 7 were  privileged to have Edel Ní Chiardha on a visit to their classroom recently. Edel is involved in The Daisy Project, run by The Irish Wheelchair Association. The Daisy Project aims to increase awareness in schools around the country about disability through drama and art.

Edel had a great chat with us and we learned a lot about what life can be like with a disability. We understand better now how important it is put ourselves in each others’ shoes so we can help each other have a full and enjoyable day at school. Edel showed us some really fun, gentle games that we can play that give everyone a chance to be fully included. For example, we learned how to play Target and Boccia. These games were very relaxing to play.

Edel kindly brought her assistance dog, Nala, who picks things up for her if she can’t reach them and is a great buddy of hers. We were delighted to get to pat Nala before it was time for Edel and Nala to go home.

Thanks so much to Edel, Nala and their friend, Josie, for coming to visit us. It was a very special visit which we will never forget!
